Sisters' Project

A buddy juz got married last month... being her sisters, we are assigned a project: Making A Pair of Ang Pao Boxes, for the couple.

At first I've absolutely no idea how a wedding angpao box look like. never notice one in the wedding dinners that i have attended before. maybe i'm not observant enuf, and juz hand the angpao to the family members standing there welcoming us.

but i thought it was easy, so i convince the other two sisters not to worry much, i will be in charge of the raw materials... and if possible, i will do it all... haha... but with my 'last minute' bad habit, i din keep my promise.

on the very last day juz before the dinner, i only started to shop for the materials. work half day, can start the making in the afternoon, but end up shopping for those little stuff the WHOLE afternoon. if possible, i hope i won't be the one who volunteer to do the shopping in future. i'm too choosy, shop from one outlet to another... visit all the shops at kenyalang before i willingly spend the cents for the stuff... to make sure they r best worth the price i spend...

wat i have bought: ribbons, flowers, wrapping papers.

i know, it sounds ridiculous i spend so long for these little things. i din expect it's so time consuming either. all these while, i thought there's only one shop selling these (in kenyalang), who knows when i got there, there r more than three shops selling the similar stuff, and i have to walk in shop to shop to choose the most suitable ones, and with the reasonable cost... some shops i even walk in twice and left without buying any from them. :D

anyway, here's some pics of the making. the venue is at one of the sister's house. working time starts from 8.30-11.30pm.

Step 1: Measuring and Cutting the polystyrene board.


Step 2: Joining with double-sided tape.


Step 3: Wrapping with the shining gift wrappers.


Step 4: Instead of cutting the slot in the middle of a whole piece, we choose to break it into two smaller piece. making the slot fatter and longer so that ppl wont find it tedious to slot in their Angpaos...


Step 5: Curve the ribbons into a Love shape, using pins to support it on top.


Step 6: Last decoration to add on: flowers.


Step 7: Ta da... our finished work.


We then continue with the 2nd box.



Din took a long time with this one. We spent longer time with the 1st one coz thinking while working has extended the working time.



Here's the pair of our finished work, with a demonstration of how to slot in the Angpao... ;)

The Gold box matches with red ribbons and flowers, is for the bridegroom.
The Red box matches with white golden ribbons and flowers, is for the bride.

actually din plan to decorate it this way when i'm shopping for the stuff. but luckily the idea strucked us the very last minute.



we r satisfied with the outcome.

so, can u guess how much is the raw cost for these boxes?
it's less than RM20.
