Voiceless Weekend
"Serve you right, you argue too much, now finally we have few of the silence days.... muahahaha.."
so cruel...
On Fri, I talk as usual, work as usual. my work at nite need me to constantly raise my voice to shout. but luckily, the voice only started to turn hoarse at the very end of the day.
On Sat, when i woke up, the voice is gone entirely. the whole morning i have to whisper when i talk, in office... a colleague told me my eyes are red. but.. i din see any difference. wahh she can see through my thick specs. voiceless doesn't stop me from working, coz there's no constant coughing, no pain at chest, n not bothered by serious mucus...
The condition is stable, until that late evening. the coughing get worse, so i went to bed. but it's too early to fall asleep, it was 8 only! but wat can i do, i'm juz too sick to do anything well, beside staying in bed. the coughing is so irritating.. from time to time i have to get up to clear the mucus from my throat... but there r times when i swallow back la, cos i'm too lazy to get up... ;)
Sun morning, a hard cough wake me up at 6. wow that's early. how nice if i can wake up that early every morning going to work. anyway, waking up so early on weekend is so not-me. so i go back to sleep... but it's not a good sleep at all. the mucus is bothering me that i need to get up to get rid of it repeatingly..
at 10, forcing myself to wake up.. cos the hot sun dun wait for me for my weekend laundry. ya, laundry for my clothes of the WHOLE week. else, Monday morning i'll be the only alien wearing differently, in the old uniform. it was so happen that the old uniform is my best favourite among all, so colleagues tend to misunderstand that i do it purposely so that i can dress in my favourite uniform. haha... they have got used to it, that's y they r too lazy to shoot me Qs now..
"u din wash ur clothes again ah?"
"u sleep all day yesterday ah?"
"aiyo..."
now, wat i got is juz..
"......" + eye contacts + sarcastic smiles.
hehehe... sorry la... :)
today i'm still voiceless. plan to seek for doctor medication this afternoon. but when i think of how stpd n foolish i'm gonna look like when talking with my hands, eyes, nose, lips, n all kind of possible gestures, i gave up n decide to stay home and surf for 'home treatments'.
Here's wat i've got which sound more practical for me:
1. Rest your voice. Speak softly but do not whisper. Whispering irritate larynx more than speaking softly.
(oh dear, i've been whispering to my colleagues n my family since Sat. i tried to speak softly, but nothing comes out, i'm like acting in a ghost movie. u know how a ghost sound like in those horror movie rite?)
2. Drink warm liquids such as tea or a honey-lemon drink.
(sound more practical, but, i can't find any honey or lemon at home. *sob*)
3. Gargle with a salt water rinse; avoid mouth rinses containing alcohol which can dry the throat.
(no honey no lemon, at least i can find some salt at home. oh dun wory i dun take alcohol)
4. If unavailable, suck on hard candy.
(yes i can find candy at home.)
5. Stay hydrated, drink plenty of liquids; water, orange juice, etc.
(water? ok this is easy.)
6. Humidifiers and warm showers can also help alleviate some symptoms.
(no problem! i never take cold shower.)
7. A tea of gingerroot can help reduce swelling of the vocal chords and relieve symptoms.
(hmm... i'll get them bring home a ginger soup tonite)
It's not so long ago the last time i'm voiceless. it was after my 'powerful' yelling at someone. two days after, the voice turn hoarse. ya ya, serve me right ok.
it was many many years ago i can remember my 1st voiceless experience. juz a few minutes of yelling and shouting in Genting (in their old roller coaster that time), destroy my whole trip. cos i was voiceless throughout the rest of the trip.
Then another time which is the worst of all, it was last year... being totally voiceless for few days, i never recover my own voice for two mths after that... i dun remember wat was the cause of that time, was it the same reasons as yelling, or other cause i'm too sure.
fyi, it was called laryngitis - overuse, irritation, or infection of the vocal cords inside the larynx. Some of the most common causes are
(1) An upper respiratory infection, especially a cold or flu
(2) Overusing the voice, such as by shouting, cheering, or singing
(3) Allergies
(4) Exposure to smoke or chemicals.
for my case, it's the (2)nd.
So the lesson is: Be gentle. Do not shout or yell while talking.
sorry, that can't be me.. i fail to change my way of releasing my temper.
Conclusion: I never learn. :(
